This is the first review done on the Ninja Luxe Café Pro (more on that machine soon), and the first one made as a Cold Press Espresso instead of a proper overnight cold brew.

I also went decaf this time. It was mainly for my wife but, I'm a fan of a Brazilian bean anyway so it was an easy pick.

The Coffee

Caffé Prima's Decaffeinated Coffee Beans are 100% Brazilian Arabica, single origin, and decaffeinated with the CO2 process (so no solvents). The bag says medium roast (3 dots out of 5) but, the website calls it medium to dark. The tasting notes on the bag are a "silky body which leads into milk chocolate sweetness and a quick, clean finish".

I paid £22.48 for a 1kg bag of whole beans, direct from Caffé Prima. That was with delivery, the bag itself is £17.49.

Setup

Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701UK on Cold Press Espresso. The Ninja recommends the grind size and weighs out the dose itself (it has a built in scale), so I went with what it gave me on a double shot. I then topped it up with about half a cup of tap water to dilute it a bit, and finished it off with cold foam on top.

The Taste

Black, it was smooth and, not bitter at all. There was a mild chocolate taste coming through (which lines up with the milk chocolate notes on the bag).

The cold foam added a bit of extra sweetness. Some might prefer it that way but, next time I opted for a splash of milk instead (that's just my personal preference with any coffee).

Considerations

Price wise, it's a lot cheaper per kilo than the speciality roasters I have reviewed before (Bridge and Hard Lines both worked out at around £44 to £46 a kilo). Delivery is free over £45, so it's worth stocking up if you have the room.

It's decaf, so if you're after a caffeine kick at the end of a shift, this isn't the one for you. It's also a 1kg bag, so you will want an airtight container once it's open (the bag says the same).

The Score

Overall, I will give it 4 beans out of 5.

With 14 hour Cold Brewing Period in my Bodum Cold Brew Coffee Maker, The Colombia El Carmen from Hard Lines came out exactly as i expected. A very smooth, not so strong but tasted of a Cherry Bakewell.

There wasn't much extra water needed to dilute it as it came out perfect, and it can be drank black, which is always a winner.

Considerations

The price per 250g was £11.50, which is a bit on the expensive side. However, if you want a treat and mix it up a little from the norm, this is certainly worth a try.

The Coffee

The Taste

The best way I can explain the taste of the Ferrari's Siena is a classic cup of coffee. Just as you would find in a café in a classic hot cup of coffee, this cold brew came out just like that.

That's a good thing as sometimes, all you want is a classic cup of coffee and every time i had a cup, it hit the spot.

Considerations

Its £18 for 1 kg of whole beans with free p+p online and, like me, you can potentially get this cheaper too. If the latter is the case, snap it up, as it makes a good cup of cold brew.

The Coffee

Using the OXO cold Brew Coffee Maker, adding 1.3 litres of water to the whole bag of 250g ground coffee. I went with an Aeropress Grind this time, which was a bit finer than I'm used to.

The Taste

While pouring the coffee through the Hario Jug with custom cheese cloth filter, I found the coffee very strong. The coffee had to be diluted a bit more than usual to get the right taste.

After sorting out the strength, the taste was very much of dark chocolate. That strong hit right at the end of every sip and, it was quite potent too. Giving a good kick in caffeine.

It's priced at £10 per 250 gram though 1 kg is £29. Its up there with the premium brands but Scout Coffee is partnered up Ecologi. With every 1 kg of coffee sold, they will plant a tree. Something a bit different from the other coffees I have had before.

First out the Box was Antonia and Panesar Peaky Blinders Coffee As, well, the name alone sold it for me.

The Coffee

From the description on both the pack and the website, it has an explosive strong dark coffee punch that's smooth and a seductive finish., Apparently, Just how the Peaky Blinders like it.

Setup

This was the last coffee to use the Bodum 1.5-litre cold brew coffee maker before moving over to the OXO cold brew Coffee maker, so I added 157g of coffee to it and let it cold brew for 14 hours.

The Taste

Straight away, you can taste almost a “burnt” taste when taking the first sip. This is usually because it's a dark roast, and for me that's the initial impact you're going to get. However, after a few more sips, the Strete really kicks in.

By the time I have finished my one cup, the caffeine really hits you and wakes you up. This is how dark it was post brew and fridge storage:

Considerations

It's £11.45 posted for 227g of the Antonia and Panesar Peaky Blinders Coffee. That is on the premium side of the coffee spectrum, however, the massive caffeine hit that gets you right away is almost worth the cost by itself as it really does wake you up.

However, after having a look around various places, the award-winning White Rose Coffee Roasters actually had The Brazil Bourbon Yellow. It was like finding a Shiny in a pack of football stickers, so I had to buy it.

The Coffee

This Brazil Bourbon Yellow from White Rose Coffee Roasters didn't officially have a strength score, however it is a Medium roast (so I'm expecting around a 3) with 84 Fruity and full-bodied with grape and deep chocolates.

Setup

I purchased the bigger 1kg of Beans, so I could experiment with the Coffee per ration. I found 156g of coffee to 1.3 litres of water did the trick.

Then added cold tap water, ready to start my 12-hour (plus 2 hours after a stir) brew:

Look at that lovely foam on top.

The Taste

This was the first time I used my Custom Cheese Filter that went into the Hario Filter (double filter action) so that I can reduce the coffee sludge.

Then, after storing it in the fringe overnight, it looks really nice.

Again, after pouring it into the Beast insulated cup, I worked out you only needed about 50ml of Water to the 300ml of coffee to dilute it.

Time for tasting and right away, the pure smoothness of the Bourbon Yellow is right there. It's not massively strong (without a doubt a 3 strength) but it's so tasty and smooth you want to keep on drinking it.

What you don't really taste any Bourbon, so don't worry about that, and at the end of each sip you can almost taste that chocolate taste.

Considerations

It's £14.78 for 1kg per bag and £3.90 for p+p which is around £18.68. This makes quite a few cups, and sub £20 for this coffee is absolutely fantastic.

The Score

Overall, I will give it 4 beans out of 5.

The Coffee

With a higher strength of 4, the dark medium roast has a nutty note.

Setup

This is already ground coffee so no need to grind it and as it's a stronger coffee, I put 160g of it in the Bodum:

What I found is that it wasn't as strong as I thought but, was a little sharp. So after popping in a bit of water, I found the optimal ratio was 300ml coffee concentrate to 50ml water.

That was enough to remove the sharpness and give off a slight hint of nut showing.

Still, it wasn't as strong as it claimed but, it was just about drinkable.

Considerations

It's cheap, it's £3.50 for 227g or 2 for £5.50 which you can really complain about, and it will do for a single origin from the supermarket.

The Score

Overall, I will give it 2 beans out of 5.

While looking around the town, I came across a Cofféa Depuis in a shopping mall and had to go look at the coffees on offer.

I'm a sucker for anything from Brazil and had to see what they had to offer.

The Coffee

As it's a single origin Coffee, It's from the Espírito Santo in Brazil, and it has hints of Chocolate.

Setup

The coffee, once blended, came in at 166g:

Then once water is added, the coffee, as expected, starts up top of the Bodum and slowly, over time, will start to drop.

This will then brew for about 12/13 hours before I check, Stir, and then ready to Pour into the Hario:

The Taste

In the first cup, I did 300ml of coffee to 200 ml of water, and it was a bit strong, so the next few cups I did a 300ml coffee to 300 ml of water, and it was spot on:

Once I got the ratio right for drinking, the coffee had an after-taste of dark chocolate, so a little bitter but, not too much in your face, and had a decent caffeine kick too.

I did in one cup add a dash of milk and in fairness, it did bring out that chocolate taste a little more.

Considerations

The main consideration here is that it was from France, so getting imported could be difficult however, if you happen to be on holiday there and spot it, it's worth a bag to take home to try.

The Score

Overall, I will give it 3 beans out of 5.
